Fiv President Ettorre: "Event for territories in the Capital of Culture."

Thirteen zones entered, 65 athletes representing more than 30 affiliated clubs, 11 Race Officials including 6 dedicated to refereeing on the water. Italian sailing makes "Route to Procida" Capital of Culture 2022 to award the regional team championship. The best of the national youth will cross on the RS21s of the fleet owned by the Campania Region used for the 2019 Universiade and which are now in the possession of the V ZONE FIV representing a strength of Campania and national sailing.

This is the first time the Italian Zone team title has been awarded and the sports project is part of the activities to promote Procida as the capital of culture as part of the initiatives connecting Culture, Sport and Tourism approved by the Campania Regional Tourism Agency. The Championship has been strongly promoted and supported by the Italian Sailing Federation; Federal President Francesco Ettorre and FIV Secretary General Alberto Volandri will be present on Procida, who will hold a Federal Council meeting in Naples for the occasion before landing on the island.

It starts tomorrow, Friday, Oct. 21-three days of event in which some of the best talent on the national scene will be put to the test, in addition to team strength. Each FIV Zone Team (FIV Zones represent the Italian regions) will be composed of four sailors who will race in rotation with RS21s, British monotypes purchased by the Campania Region for the 2019 Universiade and assigned to Fiv Campania (6.34-meter long boats with electric auxiliary engine built according to the philosophy of sustainability). The format of the regattas includes fast and exciting trials in which all crews compete on an equal footing in a qualifying course and then arrive at a real final between the best eight teams.

In respect of the environment and the Marine Protected Area Kingdom of Neptune , the regatta will use Gipsy smart buoys, produced by an Italian-Swiss startup that has created and brought to market, a buoy ' which, like a drone, is equipped with an electric motor system that automatically maintains its position thanks to the Gps, and therefore no anchoring is necessary.

"This year," explains the president of the Federvela, Francesco Ettorre, "for the first time, the Italian Sailing Federation is organizing the Italian Zone Championship: for the territory it represents a new appointment that must be a stimulus to strengthen ties and the desire to build a shared project between all the Zone Committees, focusing on young athletes who compete within regattas that represent the territory. The choice of Procida, this year's Capital of Culture, wants precisely to amplify this message through the strong link between Culture and Sport."

"With the Project "Route to Procida" promoted and organized by the FIV with the Patronage of the City of Procida - underlines Carmine Sabia Councillor for Sport of the City of Procida - the waters in front of our island will be the regatta field of the Italian Teams Area Championship. A great opportunity that is offered to us in the year of Procida Capital of Culture because Sport combined with the sea enhances our maritime traditions that are the founding element of our cultural journey. An unbreakable bond that we like to share."

Eng. Renato Marconi CEO of the Marinedi Group, adds, "In this very special year for Procida, Capital of Culture, our island is putting itself in the spotlight, in the eyes of an international audience, in all its extraordinary peculiarities: environmental, naturalistic, cultural, human and obviously sporting. The "Route to Procida" project fits perfectly into this context of enhancement and promotion, which the Marinedi Group also supports and promotes, so I am happy to host in the Marina of Procida the next scheduled regattas, which will be able to count on a truly unique race course and the hospitality and services signed Marinedi."

For the President of the Procida Italian Naval League Corrado Bianco, "This regatta is an opportunity to strengthen the ties of sailing sport with the island of Procida, which with the local section of the Italian Naval League in recent years has carried out intense sports promotion activities, with a team of young sailors participating in sporting events in various Italian and foreign race courses."

Organizer of the event is the V Zone with the local section of the Italian Naval League : "This regatta," explains Francesco Lo Schiavo, president of regional sailing, "aims to strengthen and promote the values of the territory, the riches of the coast and revive an image of a coordinated territorial system. The territorial realities of Italian sailing united in a sports project that connects Culture, Sport and Tourism."

Some anticipations about the teams: Sicily bets on reliable young athletes: De Fontes, Bruni, Canova, D'Amato. An opportunity to prepare athletes for training in collective boats, a different medium than the world of dinghies, and where cooperation and division of roles with targeted tasks becomes a fundamental tool for the acquisition of team spirit, a basic element for being "crew." The Abruzzo crew is counting on Domenico Lamante from Pescara to helm the team: a very young sailor born in 2005, he has achieved numerous successes in the Ilca class, even winning the European 4.7 under 16 championship in 2020. Lombardy has put together a team of young people who, after a more than good career as dinghy sailors, are trying their hand (also) in one-design classes and one also on Waszp, the new flying dinghy.
